Following a successful amateur career, Nigel turned professional at 21 years old, as apprentice to Pip Elson. In 1986 he qualified as a PGA Professional and won the coveted PGA trainee of the year title. Since turning professional, Nigel has become a highly-respected Club Director and golf coach. Before coming to Stratford Oaks, Nigel held previous posts of Club Professional at Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club and Director of Golf at Naunton Downs Golf Club, Gloucestershire.
Nigel has been taught by some of the best in the game, including Sir Henry Cotton, winner of three Open Championships, David Leadbetter and Denis Pugh. Over the years, Nigel has concentrated on enabling players to enjoy the whole golf experience, working with golfers of all ages and abilities. He is an approachable and understanding coach with a simple teaching philosophy:
Each person is an individual: the swing is developed around your own physical ability and flexibility. Master the fundamentals: this is essential to the success of your game. The more things you do well earlier, the fewer things we have to correct later. Practice to improve: persistence and patience will give you results
Although the fundamentals of golf remain the same, teaching has been greatly enhanced by the use of video swing analysis and this is a vital tool used by Nigel in his teaching, allowing both coach and player to analyse their game as never before.
